Did you know...
Sweet orange essential oil (Citrus aurantium var. dulcis): like the fruit from which it is extracted, has a sunny quality and a sweet, almost homely scent. It is harmonizing: calming and soothing but, at the same time, lifts the mood and infuses cheerfulness. It transmits warmth, well-being and lightness; alleviating fear of the unknown and making you curious and helpful.
Siam benzoin essential oil (Styrax tonkinensis): According to Indonesian legend, it is said to have originated from a young woman who was turned into a tree to help her family who were deeply destitute, enabling her to become rich through repeated ‘bloodletting’. In the 15th Century, because of its rarity and very high price, it was sent as a gift from Arab sultans to Venetian doges. In 1461, Pasquale Malipero, a famous Venetian chemist, was one of the first to use it in medicinal and cosmetic preparations. It has a very sweet scent, a mixture of vanilla, chocolate and almond: warm, enveloping, sensual, balancing and energizing. It helps to restore psychophysical energy; invigorates the senses and instils calm and well-being.
Mandarin essential oil (Citrus reticulata): A plant native to the Far East, where archaeological finds indicate its use since prehistoric times. In ancient China, its fruits were considered greatly valuable, so much so that they were offered as gifts to the officials, the Mandarins of the Celestial Empire, and it is believed this is the origin of its name. Its aroma predisposes a good mood and harmony. It helps us find our inner child, helping us to face life more lightly, with a smile on our lips and a predisposition to open up to others.
Tolu essential oil (Myroxylon balsamum): According to Spanish chronicles, Tolu balsam owes its name to the native Tolùes people, who lived in a place now known as Tolú, a small town in northern Columbia. The indigenous peoples used it extensively for a variety of ailments, including as a deodorant, because of its pleasant, sweet, floral, intense and lingering scent. Its aroma has various effects on the mood: as an aphrodisiac, in particular when combined with ylang-ylang essential oil, and calming and soothing especially when combined with sandalwood essential oil.
Vanilla essential oil (Vanilla planifolia): According to the principles of aromatherapy, the aroma of vanilla essential oil stimulates the production of oxytocin, the 'love hormone,' and as such has strong aphrodisiac properties, as well as being calming and relaxing.
